Entrepreneur’s Page: Dr. Vijay Kumar Singh

India has recently become the largest supplier of pharmaceuticals to Russia, and this is all because of all the Indian businessmen who have been working in this field for years. Dr Vijay is one such businessman who has been in this industry for more than 30 years along with his younger brother, Dr. Dhananjay Kumar Singh.

Dr. Vijay is originally from the district of Mirzapur, which was recently divided into two, and due to this, now his house lies in the district of Sonbhadra. He comes from a middle-class family, his father was a farmer, and he had four sons, of which Dr. Vijay is the second. He recalls that during those days, a soviet journal was circulated in all the districts of India, and it was through this journal that he came to know about the educational opportunities that the USSR had to offer.

He came to the USSR in the year 1986 as a medical student, he pursued a year preparatory course in Rostov On Don, then started his medical studies in Volgograd, but after a year of studying in Volgograd, he took a transfer to the first Moscow state medical university and then completed his medical from there in the year 1993.

During his time in Moscow, as a medical student, he fell in love with a student from Lebanon, Atika, who is now a child specialist and practices in Beirut. Dr. Vijay and Dr. Atika tied the knot in the same year that Dr. Vijay graduated. However, Dr Atika still had one of her studies left, so Dr Vijay changed his initial plan to go back to India, instead, he stayed back in Russia and received a job offer from an Indian pharmaceutical firm that was looking for someone who had the knowledge of both medicine and the Russian language. Then he set up his own business, Ruseuro Pharma, in the year 2002.

Dr Vijay and Dr Atika have two sons, the elder one is currently pursuing his master’s in neurology from Oklahoma, USA, and the younger one is pursuing his Bachelor’s from Beirut. They balance their personal and professional lives by frequently travelling to see each other, and visiting India twice or thrice every year. Their story serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration, especially for young couples today who may feel disheartened by the challenges posed by geographical distances in relationships.
