NRI Students’ Community
The story of Indian students going to Russia for school begins in the early fifties.
Among the universities that have drawn many Indian scholars are the University of Peoples’ Friendship and Moscow State University. The voyage of Indian students in Russia spans decades, according to historical perspectives. 406 Indians were educated at 33 Russian universities between 1961 and 1970. From 1981 to 1992, there was a tremendous increase, with 1,120 Indian students scattered over 66 Russian universities, including 425 graduates in several Ukrainian cities.
With 16 Russian cities available to Indian students for their academic endeavours, there is a wide geographical dispersion of knowledge across the country. More than 16,500 Indian students had been accepted into Russian universities as of 2021; a sizable portion of them chose to pursue degrees in medicine. This pattern demonstrates Russia’s leading status as a top choice for students looking to study overseas, especially in the medical sector, where more than 10,000 Indian students enroll in Russian medical schools each year. In terms of demographics, Indian students in Russia have an average age of 22.5, with a gender distribution that is significantly skewed towards men at 62.7%. Financially, the majority (81.7%) come from middle-income families, while a lesser minority (9.2%) come from low-income homes. Notably, just 6.5% came from high-income families.
The presence of Indian students in the past, combined with the present boom in enrollments, solidifies Russia’s position as a global hub for varied intellectual pursuits. From all indications, our student community is an inclusive and proactive student body with the strategic intent of ensuring a well-rounded experience for every Indian student in Russia.
